Secondary school students and civil society activists learn how to better advocate for environmental initiatives

Better access to information on water quality in the Prespa Lake, cleaning of small illegal landfills and dumpsites in Struga, solving the problem with construction waste in the Demir Kapija gorge, implementation of good agricultural practices in the Tikvesh and Strumica region and encouraging eco-activism among young people in Bitola are the six initiatives within which the Institute for Communication Studies and a group of civil society organizations will implement a series of activities in the course of this year in order to improve the state of the environment. All the activities will be implemented in partnership with six secondary schools from the respective regions in order to encourage the eco-activism among the younger generations and raise the awareness of these topics.

For that purpose, trainings are organized during January and February for implementation of campaigns for healthy and clean environment together with secondary school students and civil society organization representatives. The participants will improve their knowledge of the legal mechanisms in the area of environment, but also learn how to better represent and advocate for the initiatives in this area. The plan is to deliver three trainings events which will include 90 secondary school students and their teachers, as well as representatives from six civil society organizations working in the regions where the project will be implemented.

The trainings are implemented within the “Local Action for Better Environmental Policies” project implemented by the Institute for Communication Studies in partnership with the Macedonian Environmental Society. The project is financially supported by the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR).
